That’s why it’s best to give your kids a head start on money management and saving! Florida Credit Union is proud to offer specialized saving accounts for kids. Our Youth Accounts are geared for children under 18 years, and offer a range of options, from interest- bearing savings accounts to let them watch their money grow, to free personal checking accounts that teach your kids how to manage their money. Plus, they’ll have access to our free online banking service, and can monitor their finances right at home. Ready to open an account for your child? Does your child already have one? Here are three ways to ensure that he or she gets the most out of their new or existing account: 1.) Set a goal Create a long-term goal together (like saving up for a first car), and a short- term goal (like a new bike) then make sure to set a date for when they hope to hit those goals. Next, establish a savings calendar for illustrating how much money needs to be saved each month to reach the intended target on time, and talk about ways they can help their money grow. Youth Accounts from FCU Things have changed a lot in the last generation! A recent survey reveals that parents are much more likely to buy a new car outright for their children than their parents were for them. According to the survey of parents of recently licensed teenaged drivers, 14% reported that their parents had purchased their first car, while 41% of this same group reported having bought their teenagers’ first car for them. Time for their first car? FCU can help! APRIL 2018 FLOR IDA CREDI T UNION continued on page 2 Federally Insured by NCUA continued on page 2
