Money Matters Summer 2020

JHFCU & Diversity Along with the pandemic, we have seen the strife in our nation caused by the death of George Floyd and other events. As the credit union serving one of the most diverse communities in the country, we feel the conversation about racial diversity is important. JHFCU embraces diversity, equality and inclusion—our Board, our staff, and our 43,000 members come from very different backgrounds, genders and races. We feel the diversity in the above makes us a better organization, and better able to serve our members. Last year we developed internal SERVICE standards. The letters of SERVICE each represent a standard: S upport, E ducate, R espect, V alue, I mprove, C ommunicate, and E mpower. Two of those, Respect and Value, actually mention our commitment to uniqueness and diversity: • Respect – We respect our members and each other by exercising common courtesy, displaying professionalism, and celebrating their unique abilities, qualities, and achievements • Value – We value our members, each other, and the Hopkins community by embracing their generational, educational, experiential and cultural diversity. That being said, one of our other values is Improve and the standard states: We improve to stay relevant to our members and in our industry; we evolve for continued success. The current state of the nation brings us the opportunity to exercise those standards—to continue to stand for equality and diversity, yet to nd new ways to improve. To quote Martin Luther King, Jr.: “In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.” JHFCU will continue to advocate for fairness, inclusion and diversity. 410-534-4500 | 1-800-JHFCU-70 jhfcu.org SUMMER 2020 JOHNS HOPKINS FEDERAL CREDIT UNION JHFCU has been constantly adjusting to the events in the country, the state and city of Baltimore. As we begin the third quarter of the year, we are in a period of uncertainty. While we are past the initial crisis of the pandemic, it is by no means gone, and we are still taking steps to ensure our staff and members are safe. We recognize that many businesses have been impacted economically and need to resume some level of normal operations, but we are proceeding cautiously as we speci cally watch how the Johns Hopkins institutions open their campus operations. We will be re-opening our branches, but as of the time we go to print, we do not have a rm date. We have been working diligently to plan for a safe reopening. As you have seen in many businesses, we will have the following protocols when we re-open: • Masks required for members, visitors and staff • Social distancing (six feet) markers will be placed in the branches • Plexiglass shields • Extensive cleaning of branches • Limits on number of members/visitors • Appointments for non-teller transaction visits – We are launching a new feature on our website where you will be able to book an appointment to see a Member Service Representative We continue to urge members to use Online Banking for inquiries, transfers, or withdrawals by check (or you can also use the touch-tone TeleBranch24 service), and to use our vast ATM network for your cash needs. Most of our campus ATMs and select CO-OP ATMs SM can also be used for deposits; use the ATM locator tool on our website or mobile app to nd one near you. The easiest way to deposit a check is via the DeposZip® service on our mobile app. Also, please note that COVID-19 fee waivers for early withdrawals from Holiday Club, Educational Savings and Share Certi cates, foreign ATM withdrawals, and temporary ATM limits expired on June 30. If you are having a loan hardship, please contact us. We will communicate more details once plans are rm. COVID-19 Summer Update
