We offer several ways to help keep your card secure and encourage you to use these solutions to help protect your cards and accounts. Visit JHFCU’s Security Center online for more ways to protect your identity and common digital threats to look out for. Visa®Purchase Alerts Enroll your JHFCU Visa debit and credit card to receive instant alerts via email or text for purchases based on the criteria you select, including: • Card not present (e.g., for online or phone purchases) – Receive an alert any time a purchase is made • Foreign transactions – Receive an alert if your card is used outside of the U.S. • Purchase amount – Select the amount and receive an alert any time the transaction meets or exceed that amount (excludes ATM withdrawals) If you get an alert and have not authorized the purchase, contact JHFCU immediately. To get started, visit purchasealerts.visa.com/vca-web/check . Enter your card information and select the alert options. COMING SOON: Card Controls and Alert Enrollment in our mobile app! Visa Checkout® Enroll your card in Visa Checkout to have a secure option for payment at select online retailers. Visa Checkout encrypts your card number so the retailer does not see it. You can either select Visa Checkout from a participating retailer’s site and enroll your card at the time of your purchase, or enroll your card ahead of time by visiting usa.visa.com/pay-with-visa/ visa-checkout.html and click “Enroll now.” Mobile Wallet Options Add your JHFCU Visa debit or credit card in these popular mobile wallets for secure payment wherever they are accepted. Your actual card number is encrypted and the services use a token to complete the transaction. Open the wallet option from your smartphone and follow the steps to add your card. If your card is already registered with the mobile wallet provider (e.g., on le with Apple iTunes®), it should be accepted immediately. Otherwise you will need to call a toll-free number to verify the card before it will be activated in the mobile wallet. Once enrolled, look for retailers that accept the mobile wallets. Hold your phone up to their terminal and either validate the transaction with your thumbprint, facial ID, or password to complete the purchase. Card Tokenization Have you seen a “$0.00 authorization hold” on your debit or credit card? In some cases, this temporary authorization is a new practice called “tokenization.” Merchants and other processors are taking some extra steps to protect consumers’ accounts. Tokenization is a process by which the primary card account number (PAN) is replaced with a surrogate value called a token. Essentially, tokenization protects credit and debit card numbers in a secure, virtual vault that can be transmitted across wireless networks without adding unnecessary risk. It has been reported that Amazon, PayPal and other large merchants have begun to tokenize cards on le to better protect their consumers’ account information. Transaction Monitoring JHFCU utilizes a solution that monitors card transactions, looking for activity that is out of a cardholder’s normal pattern. In cases where a transaction looks abnormal, you may receive an automated phone call and be asked to verify that you made the transaction, and/or in some extreme cases your card may be blocked. Travel Notification Form Notify JHFCU if you plan to take a trip Since JHFCU’s transaction monitoring service looks for transactions outside of your normal purchase activity, using your card out of state, or particularly out of the country, will most likely be seen as abnormal unless you travel frequently. Regardless, JHFCU recommends you complete and submit a Travel Noti cation Form, found within Online Banking, to let JHFCU and our card processor know that you expect to use your card on a trip. You will be asked to provide the location and dates of travel. While your card activity will still be monitored, at least any activity that occurs at the destination you gave us will not automatically cause concern. JHFCU asks that you be vigilant about protecting your card and check your account frequently to ensure nothing is amiss. If you ever have any suspicious card activity, please call the Credit Union immediately at 410-534-4500 or 800-543-6789 . Some Other Tips: • Never give your card and/or PIN to someone else to use. • Don’t write your PIN on or near your card. • Avoid using public Wi-Fi if you are shopping online. • Look for the lock icon, or the “s” as in “https://” to determine if a site is secure. • Be wary of scams: phone callers (or emails with a link) asking for credit card information.
