410-534-4500 | 1-800-JHFCU-70 jhfcu.org WINTER 2023 JOHNS HOPKINS FEDERAL CREDIT UNION Tax Tips It’s almost that time of year again! It’s no secret taxes can be stressful, especially when you’re filing by yourself. Make tax season a little less taxing with a few tips from JHFCU: • Be prepared. Before you file, look into what exemptions and credits you’re eligible for, and gather any necessary documents (receipts, paystubs, invoices, etc.) before you start to file. Spending a little time getting everything organized and accounted for can save you hours. • Don’t wait until the last minute. This might seem obvious, but when you’re under the wire you’re more likely to make mistakes that will have to be amended down the line. Save yourself a headache and any back and forth with the IRS, and give yourself plenty of time to fill out, review, and file your taxes. • Know when to bring in a professional. Let’s face it, taxes can be tough no matter how prepared you are. Investment income, side businesses, major life changes—all of these things can make figuring out your tax situation less than straightforward, but TurboTax can help. TurboTax takes the guesswork out of filing, walking you through the process and showing you tax credits that you might not have even known you’re qualified for.
