A Warm Welcome to METRO’s New President and CEO: Lisa Paul-Hill

The Board of Directors of San Diego Metropolitan Credit Union (METRO) officially announced on February 14, 2017, that Lisa Paul-Hill was selected to take over as the Credit Union’s new President and CEO effective April 1, 2017, succeeding the retiring Stan Abrams.

“After a nation-wide search, we’re convinced we have selected a strong and experienced leader for the Credit Union,” said Bob Lawrence, Chairman of the Board of Directors. “We are excited about what Ms. Paul-Hill will bring to the future of our historical Credit Union.”

Ms. Paul-Hill has more than 22 years of experience in the credit union industry – primarily serving within the executive management level with a strong emphasis in consumer and residential lending. During her career, Ms. Paul-Hill spent 18 years in senior management with San Diego County Credit Union and most recently, was a key member of the executive teams at North Island Credit Union in San Diego and Wescom Credit Union in Anaheim. In addition, she previously held several industry volunteer positions, including serving on the credit union advisory boards of DealerTrack and TransUnion.

Ms. Paul-Hill received a full academic scholarship to the University of San Diego where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. With a strong focus on her career goals, she immediately entered the work force and has been an essential part of San Diego’s financial community ever since.

Ms. Paul-Hill has always been deeply committed to improving her community and actively volunteers for several organizations including the Make-A-Wish Foundation of San Diego. Her exceptional work ethic and firm belief in the benefits of giving has provided her with opportunities to serve on event committees such as Fashion With A Passion benefitting Make-A-Wish, Wine for Wishes, Walk for Wishes and recognition as a top fundraiser and supporter of Susan G. Komen, San Diego.

Ms. Paul-Hill and Mr. Abrams have worked closely through the end of March to ensure a smooth transition.

A Fond Farewell to Stan Abrams

CEO, Stan

Stan Abrams, who has served as SDMCU’s President/CEO since 2010, first as interim CEO and then officially appointed President/CEO on November 1, 2010, retired on March 31, 2017. Abrams led the METRO team in a remarkable success story of a strong turn-around from the effects of the Great Recession on the credit union’s net worth. When Abrams assumed the helm of the credit union, the net worth was below the definition of an adequately capitalized credit union and the development of a net worth restoration plan was the top priority. The community-chartered credit union, serving the residents of San Diego County, is now well-capitalized with the most recent net worth numbers standing at 9.99%, with $265 million in assets, more than 18,000 members and a strong Return on Assets.

With the tremendous vision and support of the Board of Directors, the outstanding leadership of Abrams’ executive team and dedication of the staff plus innovative programs to finance Energy Efficiency initiatives, Metro has been a leader among credit unions, for the past six years, in providing affordable financing for energy-efficient home improvements and solar photovoltaic system installations for San Diego County homeowners. The Credit Union has funded over $160,000,000 in energy loans since the inception of this very popular program.

Bob Lawrence, Chairman of the SDMCU Board of Directors, stated that “we want to thank Mr. Abrams for his enormous dedication and outstanding leadership to METRO. Under Stan’s leadership and in working closely with the Board of Directors and his senior management team, strategies were implemented that substantially increased our capital and provided more products and services to our members.”

Mr. Abrams reflected, “It has been an honor and privilege to serve as San Diego Metropolitan Credit Union’s President and CEO for the past seven years. After a credit union career spanning nearly 41 years and more than 25 years as a CEO, my wife and I look forward to my retirement so we may spend more time with our family and do more traveling.”

The Board of Directors, Supervisory Committee, Leadership Team, employees and members of SDMCU thank Stan for his leadership, vision and dedication and wish him a relaxing and enjoyable retirement – as he begins this well-deserved new chapter in his life!
